BAA wins Pink the Rink in a shootout
MTC – Factory Outlet Whitby Bantam AA Wolves win the 2016 Pink the Rink in a shootout win over Oakville Hornets.
Whitby started the tournament with a lopsided 8-1 loss to Oakville Hornets. They rebounded from their early loss with 5 straight wins to take the championship. They took the second and third games of the round robin, with a 2-0 win over the Detroit Honeybaked and a convincing 4-0 win over Markham. They met Sault Ste. Marie in the quarter final elimination game, and prevailed with a 4-3 OT win followed with a 3-1 semi-final win over Waterloo Ravens. That set up a rematch with Oakville, who had yet to lose a game. The game was tied after two periods, with Oakville scoring midway through the 3rd period to take the lead. Whitby pulled their goalie and scored with 0.1 seconds left on the clock to force OT. The over-time went scoreless and the shootout was used to determine the final outcome in favour of Whitby.
