Peewee DS WHITE, GOLD medal winners at the 39th LEASIDE MARCH MADNESS TOURNAMENT
Congratulations to the girls on a fabulous weekend of entertaining and competitive hockey played with spirit and respect! Playing in their second major tournament in a field of 14 team entries, the girls knew coming into this weekend that they would need to be ready to play and compete.
Finishing the round robin ahead in their pool, the team went onto strong quarter and semi-final victories allowing a single goal during the elimination round. The championship game against the Kingston Ice Wolves - who also went undefeated to earn a spot in the final, was well set as these teams also met in the gold medal final over Christmas in Mississauga! It came down to a well-earned Whitby goal late in the game followed by an empty net effort in the final minute to ensure the championship for Whitby in what was by all accounts among the most entertaining (and loudest!) games of the tournament!
Well done ladies, you should be proud of how you represented yourselves as well as the WGHA coming home as champions on and off of the ice!
