2020/2021 House League Season Structure

Please note that the 2020-21 Season Program will not be a "traditional" hockey season.  We are working within the rules set out by the Ontario Women's Hockey Association to provide opportunities for girls to get back on the ice and be active while maintaining necessary safety protocols.

Season Overview

  • The 2020-21 will be structured in accordance with the OWHA Return to Play Stage 3 Modified Programming document.
  • Players will be grouped together based on their level of play last year (HL or Rep) and by their appropriate level of play for the 2020/2021 season.  The WGHA may adjust this based on the need to round out numbers in a group.
  • The ice allotment and times (HL and rep) will be similar to last year and will be at McKinney Arena or Iroquois Sports Complex.
  • There will be a minimum two weeks of developmental skates at the start of all House League and Competitive programs before moving into modified game play with no physical contact subject to OWHA and the Durham Public Health Unit requirements.
  • All activities will be physically distanced with coaches following the Alternate Skill Instruction guidelines provided by Hockey Canada.
  • Modified hockey may include 3v3 or 4v4. The rules and permission to begin modified game play may begin at a time yet to be determined by the OWHA.

House league Program:

  • House league teams will have a maximum of 12 players.
  • Our House League Division will commence October 3, 2020
  • Our division convenors will sort the players into appropriately balanced teams.
  • Players will be placed on a balanced team within their age group. These teams will play in an extended group of up to 50 players. A couple of divisions may have two groups of 50 and the players within a defined extended group of 50 will play and practice together without interaction with any other extended group of 50. Players will be placed on teams based on their known abilities.
  • Players within a defined extended group may be moved to different teams during developmental skates to ensure teams are balanced.
  • A player in an OWHA group may not be part of any other hockey participant group in Ontario.
