A Message from the WGHA President: Town of Whitby Labour Disruption
The WGHA has received an update from the Town of Whitby regarding an impending strike that involves CUPE 53 Full-time staff.

Labour negotiations have been ongoing between the Town of Whitby and CUPE Local 52 Full-time since March 2023. After thirteen (13) days of collective bargaining, including four (4) days with a provincially appointed Conciliation Officer, the parties are in a legal strike or lockout position as of 12:01AM on October 14, 2023.

We appreciate that this will cause concern with respect to the status of the ice season as well as facility related permits. We will ensure to provide updates to our Community Sport Partners as they become available. To stay updated on potential service impacts, you can visit Whitby.ca/news.

The impending strike will also have an impact on our 2023024 programming and all Town of Whitby arenas will be shut down until the parties involved reach an agreement.

We will continue to provide updates to our WGHA members as we receive them.
