U13 DS Tryouts
About the U13 DS Program

Development Stream (DS) is a subset of House League intended to further develop players who are looking to move into higher levels of hockey, or who are simply looking for a more competitive hockey experience. DS players will continue to play in house league on their existing teams in addition to practices, games, and tournaments at the DS level. All U13 house league players are eligible to try out for DS.

Our team will consist of 17 players (9 forwards, 6 defence and 2 goalies). We will also have an additional 8 players on our extended roster who will be welcome to attend practices and who will act as alternates if any players are unable to attend games or tournaments.

About the Tryouts

Tryouts will consist of two sessions:

November 4, 2023

Canlan Oshawa

1401 Phillip Murray Ave, Oshawa, ON L1J 8C4

12:15PM – 1:15PM

           November 5, 2023

Canlan Scarborough

159 Dynamic Dr, Scarborough, ON M1V 5L8

10:00AM – 11:00AM

Tryouts are open to all U13 House League players. If you would like to attend, please register via RAMP.

All players are welcome to attend both tryouts. There will be no “cuts” after the first tryout.

Tryout results will be posted on the WGHA website under “U13 DS” (https://wgha.org/Teams/1718/) within a day or so after the second tryout. When you register, you will be sent a code for your player that is different than their helmet sticker. This code is what will be posted on the website. We will also give parents the code when they sign in at the first tryout.

About the Extended Roster

In addition to the 17 players chosen during tryouts, we will also roster an additional 8 players. These players are considered part of the team and will be welcome to come to all practices. These players will attend games and tournaments if any of our 17 players are unable to attend.

Please note that players on the extended roster will not be required to pay the team fees.

Expected Time Commitment

We will practice about once a week, with potentially 2 practices in some weeks if we are preparing for a tournament or based on ice availability. Please note this is in addition to the normal House League practices and games.

We will play 8 games – 4 home and 4 away. We are currently coordinating with nearby associations to arrange games.

We will attend 3 tournaments. Tentative dates are as follows:

January:

We will do one of the following tournaments, to be discussed during the first parents’ meeting:

Scarborough Sharks New Years Classic – January 5-7

Orangeville Tigers Annual Sweetheart – January 26-28

February: Durham West Annual Bolts and Hearts - February 16-18

March: Annual Brampton Canadettes Easter Tournament - March 28-31

Expected Financial Commitment

Final cost depends on the cost of ice, tournaments and other factors. Our budget will be openly available to all parents.

We estimate the cost will be approximately $1,500 per player, paid in 3 installments.

Please note that players will also need to purchase a team jersey, and should we do an away tournament there will be hotel and food costs that each family will pay on their own.
