Submitted By Info on Monday, November 2, 2020
The WGHA is proud to announce the appointment of Richard Bercuson as our Technical Coordinator for the 2020/21 season.
Richard has a wealth of knowledge and experience through his 40 plus years of coaching in Montreal, Ottawa and France. A former high school and adult education teacher, he's coached various levels of minor hockey, principally AAA, as well as junior, university, senior, and with Hockey Canada's Program of Excellence.
Richard was a guest coach with the national team in Calgary and was also a coach with Team Ontario U17. He's been the Director of Coaching for Hockey Eastern Ontario and has mentored and run various development programs. In addition to his WGHA role, he continues to work with Hockey Canada's coaching certification program as he's done since its inception, doing field evaluations and teaching specialty clinics. He's also been part of Hockey Canada program writing teams.
He hosts the podcast "Grassroots, the minor hockey show" that can be found on podcast sites like Apple and Spotify as well at grassrootsminorhockey.com. The show is a sequel of sorts to the weekly TSN Ottawa radio show he co-hosted for a few years.
For this season, he will focus on working with our U13AA, U15AA, U18AA and Junior coaches with particular attention paid to ensure each group implements a comprehensive elite development plan shaped to the age group. Richard will also assist all our association coaches by providing support and resources, with an emphasis on educating coaches on proper teaching approaches, practice planning and appropriate progressive skill development for all players. This article has been viewed 1000 times.
